I've spent some time trying to dial in 'good' settings and truly understand what each thing does by trying to adjust settings one at a time and putting in some laps to test it, this has been a time intensive process but one I think was worth it.
This can affect your laptimes because the balance of these settings determine the feel of the wheel whilst cornering and how much you feel effects like tyres about to lose grip, driving over bumps etc.
These are my recommendations and explanations for what each thing does. Use them as a baseline and adjust them to your driving style.
Sensitivity auto
FF Str. 100. Overall strength of force feedback. Recommendation is to turn down in game settings before lowering this. If you raise in game and it is a little too strong then try lowering this 1 point at a time to find the best balance for you. Adjust after you are happy with every other setting.
Scale PEAK.
Nat DPR 25. Dampens the steering response. Higher values make the steering less responsive (heavier) and this setting also helps with oscillation.
Nat Fri off. Replicates mechanical steering components and wider tyres. Helps prevent oscillation. Keep to lower values is better. FRI HAS A KNOWN ISSUE IN ANY DRIVER UP TO AT LEAST 4.46. WE ARE WAITING FOR FANATEC TO IMPLEMENT A FIX FOR CSL DD AND GT DD PRO
Nat Inert off. Additional steering weight for lighter steering wheels that also helps smooth Friction on direction changes.
FF Interp 1. Higher values give a more intense but 'spread out' feeling for ffb that seems to give intensity at the cost of fine detail. Try this for yourself up to 20 and see what suits you best.
FE INTENS 90. Intensity/Smoothness of effects. Lower is smoother, higher is more intense/spiky.
For. EFF % 90. GT7 uses this for Force EFF%, wheel Spr EFF% (wheel centering) & Damper EFF%. Adjust it in range 80% - 120% for weaker or stronger effects on wheel.
Spr. EFF % 100 (not used by GT7 but leave as default as may affect wheel centering according to manual)
Dpr. EFF % 100 (not used by GT7 but leave as default)
In GT7 Game Settings.
FF Max. Torque 6. Lower makes wheel lighter and gives less feedback. Higher makes wheel heavier and feedback higher... Potentially making it harder to control wheel accurately over bumps. All about finding the balance of force to feel the tyres without being a wrestling match with the wheel.
FF Sensitivity your choice. At time of writing for my 787b at Sardegna I'm using 8. 1 is heavier steering response, 10 is lighter more responsive steering. I've actually found this can be adjusted to help correct over/understeer whilst in a race and unable to change settings on car. Lower setting if you are oversteering and raise setting if you are understeering. You may benefit from changing this up or down to suit different cars as well. Don't be afraid to try adjusting this as needed.
